Young Philosophers Clubs - The Life Online

For 7-11 year olds

Thursdays - 19th, 26th September, 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th October, 7th and 14th November.

5.30-6.15pm (BST)

Join Claudia Godwin for this Club. With our daily lives increasingly interwoven with the use of online digital technology, during this club you will think about the potential impact this may have on us and also perhaps help you explore different ways to deal with/approach/think about it. We will begin by considering how the invention of new technology such as writing first worried ancient philosophers and, following these discussions, what concerns may be raised about the invention of the internet and also AI. As part of this we will also consider how tools such as words, writing and digital communications can represent the world and different perspectives of the ‘truth’. We will also explore, the nature of our online identities and online friendships, and also perhaps potential ‘friendships’ with AI robots.

  1. Thoth & Thamus - if we use more 'remote' technology, do we lose empathy and connection?
  2. Can you step in the same river twice?
  3. The Chair
  4. 3-eyed aliens
  5. Green ideas /Thoughters and Sayers
  6. Happy prisoner - Are we free if we are potentially controlled by a false narrative?
  7. ‘Who do you think you are?’ - adapted to also think about our online presence, how representative is it of who we are?
  8. Only human. Can an AI robot be a friend ?
